Religion for Today
Today, my religion reading was on the Sacrament of Baptism.
It said how a person can't get to heaven without this Sacrament, being a spiritual re-birth and shedding of the Original Sin.
There are only two other ways that a person can get to heaven without Baptism: Baptism of desire and Baptism of blood.
Baptism of desire is where the person was never able to recieve the Sacrament, but still lived a good life, or if a person was totally ignorant of the Sacrament. This allows everyone who lived a good life to still get to heaven.
Baptism of blood is where a non-Christian dies as a martyr, thus allowing the person to get to heaven. A non-Christian martyr could be someone inspired by the martyrs around them and fight with them, dying a martyr's death and going to heaven.
Baptism performed outside the Church still counts if it follows the form, matter and intent.
The form is the person who Baptises says 'In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost', the matter is water and so long as the intent is to get rid of sin.

Religion
My religion today was about the Seven Sacraments and how the give us grace and help us on the way to Heaven.
The Sacraments are: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist. Confession, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony.
My religion book said that the Sacraments are like signs, but through God, they help us to follow them. It gave an example of a stop sign. It reminds us to stop, but can't do anything else, while a Sacrament would help us to stop.
They are outward signs of God's grace in us.
Thus, each Sacrament helps us to lead a better life and aid us when we need help, such as the Annointing of the Sick helping to give you hope and feel safer.
They are important parts of are religious life and helps us get to heaven.

Religion
For my religion today, I read a leaflet on World Youth Day written by a Fr. John Flader, recalling highlights of WYD and providing a summary of the week.
1: There was around 113,000 Australians and 110,000 registered pilgrims from across the world.
2: The Police Commisioner of Sydney reported that it the crime rate had been at it's lowest during the week of Wortld Youth Day and that the police officers were friendly, as he stated that any other time there would have been a riot, but the pilgrims followed the police willingly.
3: Thousands of pilgrims from across the world made their way on Saturday over the Sdyney Harbour Bridge on their pilgramage to the shrine of Blessed Mary Mackillop.
4: Relics of several saints and blesseds attracted crowds of pilgrims, especially the body of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, with streams of pilgrims coming to pray before his body.
5: The Stations of the Cross, on Friday, was very powerful, set as it was against the city and the slowly setting sun, with Pope Benedict leading the people who attended in prayer at each Station.
6: The WYD Cross and Icon, which had travelled the world with each World Youth Day, attracted many people to pray near the iconic Cross and Icon.

My religion for today
today my religion reading was about snactifying grace and the three theological virtues.
Sanctifying grace is a gift from God to help us on the way to Heaven. Snactifying grace can inspire you to be nice and help someone through any problems they are having or it can inspire us to go and do something else, such as read the bible, etc.
Because sanctifying grace helps us to be kind to others, it is a very important gift from God which helps us get to Heaven.
The three theological virtues, as my religion book called them, are faith, hope and charity.
Faith, for obvious reasons, is incredbily important, as it helps us to accept God and things of our religion which we may not understand.
Hope is also important, as without hope we wouldn't do anything to get to Heaven, as we would believe we never could get to Heaven. Thus, hope is just as important as faith.
Charity helps us to be nice to others and help them along the way to Heaven, helping us ass well. It helps uas to be closer to God, as we are showing love and kindness to strangers.

My Religion for Today
In my religion reading today I read about how the prophets gave 'clues' to the Jews so that they would be able to recognize the Messiah.
The book I was reading then briefly covered the two parts of Jesus' life: His 'hidden life', when He didn't preached and lived with Mary and Joseph and also His 'public life' when he preached to the people, which first started when He was baptised in the River Jordan by St. John the Baptist when the Holy Spirit came down.
My religion book then covered briefly two heresies: Docetism, which is the belief that Christ wasn't man and only seemed to be, because the body was evil.
The second heresy it talked about was that of Arianism, which is the belief that Christ was the Messiah but wasn't divine.
That was all of mt religion for today.

My Religion for Today
My religion reading today was about how we should love our neighbour and our enemy.
It said that it is not required of us to love our enemies in that sense of word, but to wish them goodwill.
An example they give is that, no matter how cruel or mean, we should forgive our enemies and pray that they are forgiven and go to heaven.
It also says that we should not lose our tempers and call them names or hurt them.
Another thing that isn't right is to ignore them and have nothing to do with them. We should always pay attention and be happy to talk if they talk to you.
St. John wrote that "Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer." We should always remember this and try to wish goodwill to everyone and pray that they go to heaven, even offoring up the pain they cause to God for their salvation.
I found this chapter interesting, especially for those times when I have a fight with my brothers.

My Fairy Penguin Story
This is my Fairy Penguin story that I wrote today for my schoolwork:
My name is Pete and I'm a Fairy Penguin. I live at the Sydney Zoo.
This morning, one of the Zoo Keepers fed me and my friends our favourite food: Fish!!!!!!
After we had eaten, we played some games. While we were playing, some people came to watch. Some of them even pointed!! Just shows how rude they are!!!!!!
Anyway, after we had played, I was getting hot( as were the people watching, hahaha!!!) so I jumped off the island into the nice, clear and cool water.
After my swim, I got back on the island and had a rest. When I got up again, another Zoo Keeper fed us more of our favourite food. As it was getting late, I found a place to sleep.
That was my day at the Zoo.

Faith & Life reading for Today
Today I read two chapters of my Faith & Life book.
One was about penance and the other was about the fourth commandment, honour your father and mother.
The first chapter was intresting and it talked about the different forms that self-denial can come in. Some ways of self-denial were doing your best effort with your schoolwork, forgiving an unkind word, not having your own way or not overeating.
It then talked about penance and gave you some examples of penance.
The second chapter then talked about honouring your father and mother gave you reasons for honouring them and gave you some examples, such as when you are young obeying them ,when you are older taking their advice and when, they are old, taking care of them.

St. Cyril of Alexandria
Cyril was born in Alexandria in the year 370 AD. His uncle,Theophilus, was Archbishop of Alexandria.
His uncle, though he meant well, had a very bad temper and was stubborn. After Theophilus died in 470 AD, Cyril became Archbishop of Alexandria. Cyril was a very brave man and was very honest and straightforward.
Despite all of this, Cyril shared nearly the same 'personality traits' as his uncle: He was an impulsive and stubborn man.
Cyril was the representative of Pope St. Celestine I at the Council of Epheusus in the year 431 AD. This was a very large, official meeting with more than 200 bishops.
The reason for the meeting was to examine the teachings of the priest Nestorius. Nestorius was teaching wrong things, such as that Jesus is God but not man. The pope gave him ten days to stop preaching these false things but he refused, so Cyril and the other bishops had to tell the people that he was wrong.
St. Cyril and the bishops did it so well that the people didn't listen to Nestorius at all.
St Cyril died in the year 444 AD and was proclaimed a Saint and Doctor of the Church in 1882 and his feast day is June the 27th, today.
